A piece of furniture can use both. Check the top, frame, legs, and drawers separately to understand how it is made.
What is wood veneer?
Wood veneer is a thin layer of wood over a supporting core. The core might be MDF, plywood, or another material. A product description should identify the visible surface and what supports it.
Verona storage is listed as walnut veneer, MDF, and rubberwood. That is different from all-solid-walnut construction. The Leonardo coffee table uses travertine and plywood for its top, with MDF and oak veneer in its base.
Does walnut mean walnut wood?
Not always. “Walnut” may name a wood species, a veneer, or a finish color. For example, the oval pedestal dining table has a walnut-colored finish. Its top is listed as MDF with a wood-veneer design, and its pedestals as rubberwood.
Stone needs the same careful reading. The Leonardo table’s listed 50 mm top thickness includes its construction; it does not mean the top is a solid 50 mm stone slab.
What should you check?
Ask about the surface, core, edge treatment, and finish. Use the care instructions for the exact product. Protect wood from heat and standing moisture, and check before applying a polish or cleaner.
For travertine, confirm the sealant and care instructions. Use coasters, blot spills promptly, and avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners.
